You need a shortwave radio or weather station because things are happening, you're preparing or current events make you wonder if you have the worst case. I'm at this stage and honestly didn't want to spend $150 on something all digital with fancy multipurpose cases. After looking at different models, I settled on this radio. It cost $50, it had USB charging capabilities, it had a lithium-ion battery that you can charge or charge via USB from a power bank or adapter. In addition, it has a battery compartment to power 3 AAA batteries (not included). Then when I got it, it had some more cool stuff that would come in handy. a flashlight (dimmable), a red distress/panic signal (that's a loud noise when you press the red button so people can hear) and a cute little clip to attach it to your bug pouch or molle slot attach. So I'm impressed. So disadvantages. There are a few. The compass is functional, but will probably not be my first choice. Get a special hand compass. It seems sketchy and a bit weird. The buttons wobble a bit but they won't fall off, just be careful not to press them and you'll be fine. A small harbor star for these few issues. Advantages. The radio works on all channels. Shortwave I caught Italian? Weather stations work crystal clear. AM comes in and FM sounds surprisingly clear and loud. This little speaker makes it possible. definitely worth the $50+ to have all of these features and will definitely be back to update any additional stuff that comes up.
