I purchased this along with the Red Dragon Weed Torch and am glad I did. The basic weed burner has a needle valve that works well, but the flame constantly adjusts to what you adjust. Generally, when you're burning weed, you want it to be at the highest level. This means that with a needle valve it will run at full power all the time. Purchasing a release valve gives you the ability to "dial" the strength of the flame as needed. This means you can let go of the handle when going from a part of your garden with no weeds to the part that requires weed control, all with minimal flame. What does that mean? That means you don't waste propane because it's not running "at full capacity" all the time. The packaging says it will pay for itself after a while. (I don't remember what time it was). I agree with them. Overall, this is a handier way to kill weeds at a lower cost. I couldn't imagine buying (any Dragon) torch without this flame monitoring device throughout the process. I highly recommend it!
