Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Lime Green Nintendo New 3DS XL Special Edition - Discontinued Model in Stock! by Trevor Blazis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for on the go! But no ac wifi.

A little background before we start: I mostly play PC and this was my first handheld console purchase since the GameBoy. However, my expectations are quite high in terms of performance and ease of use. I really wasn't sure I would like the 3DS XL before it came out. After updating the system (which can be excruciatingly slow compared to the faster speeds some might get used to when connected to other consoles or computers), I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I ended up liking this thing liked, despite all its pitfalls (more on that later). Look and Feel: The Lime Green Edition 3DS XL that I received came with Super Mario World preinstalled, which was a nice bonus. It looks absolutely amazing. The black interior, which you'll be looking at most of the time, is sophisticated, but combined with this model's lime green leather, that combination really makes it more of a premium device than just a toy. It's a little thinner than I expected, which can make it uncomfortable in some situations (e.g. lying on the couch or playing in bed). Holding it while seated isn't too difficult, and I found the joystick and button configuration to be quite comfortable. I haven't come across a game that relies heavily on L and R triggers yet, but as far as I can tell I'm hoping I won't come across one any time soon. The bumpers on this thing are a little clunky, making them less than comfortable to use. Luckily no game I own uses them and I don't see many FPS games for this platform so I won't be using the device for that. To be honest there isn't much you can do about the placement of these bumpers anyway. Build quality is pretty good too. It's still a plastic construction but seems like it'll hold up well if I take care of it. Ease of use (software, UI, app store, etc.): I came to this platform not knowing what to expect from the UI or the app store. Perspective. First, the user interface on this device is incredibly simple, which I consider a plus. There isn't much room in the UI for advanced users, but it gets the job done well enough. I'm very surprised Nintendo hasn't done more to polish the UI, but whatever. It works perfectly and is so easy even a child can use it and that's about it I guess. The App Store is ok but has limited sorting and filtering options if you're trying to find an app/game but aren't quite sure what. do you want. I had this problem trying to figure out what apps are running on the 3DS, but I couldn't filter well to see the type of app I needed. Now let me move on to my experience with this little thing: I love it despite the little gotchas I mentioned (and many more I'll mention below). Playing this thing and playing games in 3D is a real pleasure. It's very small, portable, and the quality of games for this device is much higher than I expected. The first game I played was Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and I really enjoyed it. I never expected to get through 40+ hours of handheld gaming so quickly. The social options on this device are extremely limited, but that's okay. For me, the 3DS is about being able to play great games, classic and otherwise, solo and enjoying the single player experience. This console definitely delivers on its promise of simplicity. Conclusion: PROS: - Decent display - Decent battery life - Gaming on this console is a pleasure! - Looks and feels good CONS: - No AC Wi-Fi. The. . Damn. That should be standard by now. The download speeds I get on this device for even the smallest apps are extremely slow on the 2.4GHz band. My wireless network works very well in the 5GHz band, but unfortunately this device only works in the 2.4 band. Keep this in mind if you have a congested 2.4 network like me as all bandwidth is now shared across even more devices. No power user options and lack of social features that I'm used to from the PlayStation. and PC (e.g. chats and easy ways to make friends) Great device. Would recommend to anyone looking to play on a budget or on the go.
