Invisalign does not generally recommend them, but I know some orthodontists do. I didn't have it but after a lot of reading I decided to order these just to help with placement, plus I'm generally a chewer. I'm in my first week with Invisalign and I'm having a hard time putting things right at first. I just received them and had to check them out immediately as my conclusion from other reviews was different. So, some key points with them - I read all the suggestions and reviews, for some reason from the reviews I gathered they were frothy and slightly porous (like pool noodles). THAT'S NOT THE CASE! They have a more silicone-like texture so they can be rinsed off and will not retain saliva after rinsing and drying. Second, they have no real taste, they smell delicious, but they have no taste! I've also read that many cut them in half to make them smaller or to make better use of them (because they said they get rough, again in my mind assuming they were porous like frothy noodles for a basin). They're definitely not porous, and while they do have some grip, they're definitely very slippery to chew on with your aligners. I cut one of my 3 in half and I really wish I had because if I bite into it it slips off causing a slight choking hazard. If it stayed a hole it would be less and less annoying. Obviously I'm just trying them on today and I don't know how long they will last without breaking, but they seem to be quite heavy and I only see myself chewing on them for 10-15 minutes after I put the aligners in, so i'm guessing they will last someday. And it's coming from someone who, before Invisalign, likes to chew on pen tips, straws and such 😆. Although I have a very short treatment ahead of me, only 15 weeks, I don't see the need for more than one gum a month if taken care of, if I will care for them after use the same as my aligners (in aligners if needed) solution soak) Hope this helps!
