Assembly requires a plastic eccentric that goes in the hole to give the screw something to 'grip' around the tree to attach to the frame. If you use a power tool it will LIGHTLY pull the cam into the wood and break the hole (see pictures). However, if you turn your electric screwdriver to the lowest setting, you will feel the right resistance and stop in time. Or just use a hand screwdriver and stop when it's safe. If you're used to building things like this, this is a pretty easy 15 minute build from start to finish. There was a small mark on the corner of the table top, not related to shipping. The box was intact with no bent corners. Otherwise it's very solid and easily holds my heavy printer.
