Awesome product for the price! I was lucky enough to find a stud right in the middle of where I wanted to hand the shelves! So the inner hole of the mount was screwed directly into the stud. For the other four screws, I marked all holes using a pencil and level, used a 5/16 drill bit (8mm was recommended) and screwed in the white drywall anchors by hand. When mounted, the shelves were not perfectly perpendicular to the wall due to the imperfect bracket. To avoid them slanting down away from the wall, I flipped over the mounts, so now the shelves are slightly slanted upward, but this is perfect for me. Finally, no, the metal brackets do not have holes in them to match the holes at the bottom of the shelf. I was going to drill them myself, but then discovered I was able to screw right into the metal using a little bit of muscle. They look great and feel very secure now.
