Too bad I don't have to trim 6 inches or I'd return it. It doesn't stop cats. I wanted something semi-painless to keep them from jumping over the gate into the room they belong to. Unfortunately that doesn't work. They sleep on it and one of my boys loves it because it scratches his chin when he rubs it. In addition, it is almost impossible to relax. When I first got it I unwrapped it, put weights on each end and left it in the garage at 120 degrees for the day, hoping the heat would help flatten it out, but as I moved it , it buckled each end and they curled up again. I can highly recommend one of the Zap floor mats. They may feel more intense, but one shock is enough and they will avoid the mat. Therefore, buy a discharge mat if you use it indoors. This is a waste of time and effort.
