This pencil extender set from Derwent is a really great tool for pencil artists. Extensions are available in two packs of two different extensions, each suitable for different pen widths. The black extension is designed for standard width pencils up to 7mm wide. While the silver colored extension is suitable for wider pens up to 8mm wide. Derwent is one of the best names for artists working with paint, watercolor, pastel and their unique "Inktense" pencil lines. Their pencils are of the highest quality and the choice of colors in all lines is very large. So when I bought these extensions I was expecting a very high quality from the devices as their very thin pins are of the highest quality their extensions should be of the same quality. I was NOT disappointed. Both extensions use plastic top poles for light weight and cost savings. Both use metal tips on a plastic shaft to hold the pencil stub securely. The 8mm extension has a bottom screw lock ring that is all metal, probably aluminum as it is a very light metal. But the screw on the retaining ring for the 8 mm pen extension is also made of metal and thus offers a good hold for the pen, which is particularly advantageous when using professional wide or triangular pens. A 7mm extension also uses a plastic stock. However, at the end of the stick is a metal socket into which a pencil stub is inserted. Although the snap ring is a plastic part, it is well constructed and should last for years without breaking. Both extenders have an excellent balance. And both extenders match the quality of the Kohinoor line, one of the best in the business. So I give this device 5 stars and recommend it to all serious pencil artists using pencils that often reach $3 to $6 a pencil. At such prices, the extension cord pays for itself in a very short time. Both designs are well balanced and comfortable. I would highly recommend this expansion set to any serious pencil artist. Feel free to try this pencil extension set. You will not be dissatisfied with the results.
