Review on 🐱 HBN Automatic Cat Feeder: HD 1080P Camera, Alexa Compatible, Wi-Fi App Control! by William Belczyk

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really handy feeder and accurately dispensed portions while away

We received this last night and immediately got to testing it with soybeans, yes soybeans because they're easier to clean in case we had issues with it, since there are no reviews yet. The small beans never jammed because they were too small, but some did just roll out of the bowl as it was dispensed, but dry pet food shouldn't do this because they're not quite as round. The unit is sized perfectly for about at least two weeks of feeding according to my fiance who feeds her cat a 1/4 cup twice a day. Materials and construction on the feeding unit is solid and the cap DOES have a twist lock cap! We were concerned about the cap because I don't believe it was mentioned and her cat is a real mischievous one who loves to open doors, zippers, and lids on containers, especially when there's food in it. It's only a slight wrist turn, not the full twist and crank down type. The included braided USB cable feels rather cheap and the power adapter does as well, but those can be replaced, as her cat WILL chew cords. The white braided jacket on the USB feels similar to paracord, not some ultra tough jacket that is chew resistant, and is rather thin and flimsy. This cord is not a standard USB end on the side that goes into the feeder, instead it’s the older round power plugs with a pin in the middle. The supplied USB power adapter is also rated for 1 amp output, so this feeder really doesn't consume much at all, and the feeding drum rotates slowly and fluidly, so the food doesn't just eject and spit out. It's well controlled and portioned. The app was also super easy to install and use. It's has up to twelve portions to dispense in succession with the app while we played with it in manual mode, but setting up the feeding dates and times are also easy, it's like setting up your calendar and creating a to-do list on your phone's calendar or reminders. Connecting to wi-fi is also easy, just like any normal setup to connect a device. The only slight problems we had, and we tested by disconnecting power (without using battery backup) to the unit to simulate a power outage is to see how quickly it would reconnect, sometimes it was fast, sometimes it took awhile or we had to reset it. We'll have to do this a few more times to make sure it doesn't just totally disconnect, or else our little furry buddy is gonna go hungry. We haven't tried it with battery backup, but I don't see it being an issue with disruption of service, we just hate when alkaline cells leak and make a mess after they sit for awhile in devices. This unit does have a voice recording feature (repeats 3 times) like the previous feeder did to call out to your pet during programed feeding sessions. We did not use the Alexa feature, since we don't have that. This won't be the primary feeder, only when we're away for extended periods, but a real lifesaver for those times you can't be there right away at feeding time.
