Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Enhance Your Jeep Wrangler JL with FieryRed Smoked LED Tail Lights: Reverse Light, Turn Signal, and Running Lights for 2018-2021 Models by Patrick Locke

Original version - they work despite a quality control issue

2020 Sport Altitude (no rear security package) - I ordered a variant with a side marker light mounted in the center where it is blind on pricier jeeps Spot monitoring system . . Put them on an hour later once they arrive. Like most LED lights used with CanBus style vehicle control systems, RESISTORS always seem to be the Achilles heel of such products. Of course, their job is to siphon off extra power from the body control module so the car's computers don't warn on the dash that the light bulb has burned out, accompanied by a blinking turn signal. My problem: After unpacking the headlights, a wire just "fell off" from one end of the resistor as if it hadn't been soldered in. Rather than agonize over the product changeover, I stripped the end of the wire and soldered it back to the resistor lead, then sealed the connection with tape. If I didn't have a soldering iron or any knowledge of electronics I would be seriously disappointed. The bulbs themselves are pretty easy to install, and there are tons of how-to videos on YT. Use the detachable brackets and factory screws from the old kit. Mounting the Resistors: First attach each to the supplied galvanized metal plates with two small nuts and mounting bolts on each side. Then, before connecting and fitting the lights to the body panel, use the two supplied black metal clips on each side and attach the resistors/plates to the inside of the fender housing. I didn't take a picture of where I installed the resistors, but I placed them in the small gap between the inner and outer metal wings with a FLAT inner metal seam. I also planted them at the bottom of the seam ahead of the curve so gravity and shocks can't knock them off. All you have to do with the black bite clips is slide them BOTH over the metal seam of the car and the edge of the resistance plates and squeeze them both together to hold them in place. If the bite clamps are too loose, use pliers to squeeze them before re-attaching. As you can see these lights look pretty good on the Sting Gray clear coat, especially with the Altitude package. Let's see how they hold up. Although I wouldn't be very surprised if any of the other resistance wires fell off. Unless you want to mess around with external resistors, I would recommend the buyer look for models over $250 that have resistors built in.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No automatic transmission
