I originally bought the Ring 2 doorbell but ended up returning it and buying the Skybell. Already in the first days we noticed big differences between the Skybell Security Doorbell and the Ring Security Doorbell. If you just want a quick overview, just scroll down where it says "general". First, there is no monthly fee for storing and viewing alerts on the Skybell app. The Ring 2 doorbell only lets you see notifications when they arrive, unless you pay a monthly subscription fee. Second, the Skybell app is much faster than the Ring app. The Skybell app loads the live stream almost instantly, while every time I tried to download the Ring app it wouldn't load unless I was at home by the doorbell. Third, motion sensitivity appears to be about the same, although Ring 2 lets you designate "zones" that can trigger motion. The Skybell only has "high, medium, and low," but both doorbells seem to work the same way when it comes to motion sensitivity. With both Ring 2 and Skybell, motion detection is triggered when large trucks drive by, regardless of what the doorbell is set to. Fourth, the picture on the Skybell is much clearer and sharper than on the Ring 2 doorbell. With the Skybell, you can clearly see the details even at night and with the porch lights off. Finally, the Skybell connects directly to your old doorbell using the original wiring and sound from your old doorbell. I bought a Ring 2 doorbell which is wireless and requires a battery. It can also be connected directly to the original doorbell, but cannot be powered by it. I'm not sure if Skybell has a doorbell that can be wireless. Overall I'm very happy with Skybell, I was very disappointed with Ring. I love that the Skybell app doesn't have a fee like the Ring app does. The Skybell app is much faster than the Ring app. Motion sensitivity is the same for both. Skybell has a better picture. Finally, the Skybell is powered by your doorbell and does not require a separate power supply.
