We have a cat with facial trauma and he drools a lot, so we looked for a machine washable litter for him (a "sensitive" environment seemed acceptable to us). It works great for him and he started using it shortly after getting it out for him too. There have been several cold fronts in the area lately and we have noticed that he goes to bed during the colder hours of the day. When we felt in bed it was quite warm from the warmth of his body! While I wouldn't specifically recommend this as a solution to keeping them warm in cold weather, it does retain some of their heat to keep the internal temperature warmer than the ambient temperature in the room. We lowered the top on warm days and it works as an open bed, as expected. The bed itself is very small. So if you have a big fur, you may need to look for a bigger one.
