Review on ๐Ÿ—„๏ธ ClosetMaid 1568 Espresso Stackable 2-Drawer Horizontal Organizer: Simplify Your Storage" by Marcus Morgan

Good but not better in the bedroom furniture category

Not bad for what it is, I didn't expect perfection and they work but there are some issues. The installation instructions for the drawer slides are less than clear. Couple this with the fact that the instructions dictate that a stand must be placed in front of the drawers and you might (like me) end up in a situation where you need to flip a pair of sliders without being able to easily do so. I bought 2 of these, the first took 45 minutes to assemble, the second less than 20 minutes. The base is nailed. The backer is significantly smaller than the frame. The drawer set is made of melamine (chipboard with plastic laminate). Anyone who's driven a nail into melamine close to the edge knows the danger of chipping, and that's what happened at the top center of the second set I put together. I used this set as the bottom part of the stack so I don't care, just pay attention to the nail angle (toenails sticking inwards). My only major complaint has to do with the thickness of the upper. It's THIN. How VERY thin. The width of the device is less than 24 inches with a top thickness of 1/2 inch. If they were real wood that wouldn't be a problem, but melamine isn't as strong as wood, making it less than capable of supporting any weight without warping or jamming the top drawer shut. I have a fairly small (32") flat screen TV that weighs very little and has a large footprint (to distribute the weight) on top of this unit and deforms the top so much that it has trouble closing the top drawer. A Increasing the thickness of the upper to 3/4" would completely stop the warping I'm seeing. Overall not bad but not outstanding. Simply changing the thickness of the material on the upper only would have given this item a 5* for my use did.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • No
