Why Are Ratchet Straps Good? They will not pierce the belt or deform the necessary holes in the traditional belt/buckle design. Do not deform the shape of the belt over time. Once fitted and in use, they are very easy to loosen or tighten. Just pull the strap for a few seconds. They are easier to use both when putting on and taking off. Are there any disadvantages to using a ratchet strap? The buckle is more complex than traditional buckles. This limits the shape and design, which is why every ratchet strap I own or see is a similar rectangular shape. The buckle can cut my stomach, but that's more due to my overweight than the design of the belt. I've only been using ratchet straps for almost three years. I actually threw my old straps and buckles in the trash, so now I only have ratchet straps. I will never return.
