Review on Efficient Detection with Inficon-718-202-G1 Combustible Gas Detector by Pete Door

I find this product to be excellent at locating gas leaks. I had to replace my existing gas line with 3/4 inch pipe to support a new water heater. My previous water heater ran on a 1/2" gas line. The replacement required a lot of fittings with multiple threaded pipe connections. I originally used Teflon gas tape on all my connections, but when I watched my gauge I realized I was stuck somewhere in the leaked very little gas through tight lines. I know that many plumbers and DIYers recommend soapy water and bubbles to find leaks. This worked well when I had fairly large leaks and you can easily see all the connection areas (the back of the elbow and the fittings). could, but for micro leaks, soap and bubbles wouldn't work at my typical natural gas pressure.(1/2 psi or less.) In my case, I couldn't check the pressure in my higher PSI system because my gas meter has a regulator that goes above 1 /2psi depressurizes This detector is absolutely great, it found micro leaks in several of my teflon tape connections Incidentally, I've found that pipe joint compound works much better on my galvanized pipe fittings to seal joints without micro-leaks. We are talking about leaks that you do NOT smell and cannot easily identify with bubbles at this low pressure. I bought a $30 combustible gas leak detector from a local home center, but it just couldn't detect these micro leaks. Big leak you can feel no problem a $30 device can isolate it for you but not very small leaks. If you are considering replacing your natural gas line or have multiple gas lines in your home that you want to check, this is a great product. Be sure to read the instructions and follow the clear safety rules when working with natural gas.
