The Black & Deckers 3-in-1 Infrared Thermometer does exactly what it does: as a human thermometer. 4 stars. It's got all sorts of bells and whistles, including maintaining temperature for an extended period of time and an "Item" mode that supposedly measures the temperature of things to see if they're being burned or not. (This requires you to hold down the bottom button for 3 seconds; that's one of the many things you might want to save the manual for.) Unfortunately, several tests with it showed temperatures that were grossly inflated even with exothermic materials like aluminum. and steel. I also don't like that it uses 2 AAA batteries which are fortunately included but need to be removed if you only use the thermometer a couple of times a year. Luckily, the removed batteries, the device itself, and the instruction manual all fit in the cloth pouch that came with it. The good news is that the two main features - infrared forehead temperature scan and infrared ear scan - work great (I compared them to a sublingual thermometer). ) and within a few seconds of activation. There's a fancy LED that changes color depending on whether you have a fever or not, but like a lot of other things, that's not really necessary here. 4 stars because it works well despite all the extras.
