Paradigm has been around for decades and is a very underrated company. Their speakers, even their entry-level line, produce sound superior to what others offer in this price range and configuration. My dad had a pair of Monitor 7 floorstanding speakers and they sounded great. Having purchased a 5.1 setup consisting of an NHT SuperOne, SuperCenter and a Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer that has served us well for over 20 years, I decided to purchase this Monitor SE Atom and Monitor SE 2000C expecting a Sound improvement and I wasn't disappointed! However, there are a few things to consider. First, these speakers are ported, not closed. This means, that they have a higher sensitivity rating, making them easier to pair with a wider range of amplifiers/receivers, regardless of budget. However, when ported, these paradigms are more sensitive to placement. If you place them too close to reflective surfaces such as walls, window panes, etc., they will sound hollow and muffled. It all depends on what the configuration of your room allows. Second, despite having a 5.25-inch woofer cone, they're huge. My NHTs had a 6.5" woofer and were smaller in almost every dimension due to their closed design. Third, these speakers are designed to reproduce sound at around 60Hz so you may be tempted to rush and get a subwoofer to buy. Of course, For low-frequency effects in films and if you want to correctly reproduce the sound in the range up to 20 Hz, you need a subwoofer. However, when placed correctly, the bass in these speakers is tight and present, so you can only be completely satisfied with these speakers. Finally, these speakers sound neutral and honest, reproducing the sound exactly as it is received from the source. If you prefer to listen to compressed audio files or stream music, you will hear the loss that music compression causes compared to lossless audio. All in all these speakers sound great without the EQs and are fantastic with the slight adjustments required depending on the room. These white speakers look fantastic and the finish and construction is first class. Highly recommended.
