Combined with the Airport Extreme it's the same as the 4TB Time Capsule but much cheaper

I bought this to enable Time Machine features on my Macs. I have a new Airport Extreme and am eyeing Apple's Time Capsule, but have my doubts about how much money they cost and that you can't expand their storage options. So I read something to find out that you can add a USB hard drive to the airport and get the same features. I've narrowed my search to USB 3.0 because many of my machines are connected to wired 1Gb/s Ethernet and I want fast backups. Well I'm not disappointed. When I back up over WIFI, it's actually not that bad, except for the first backup, which is many GB in size. Otherwise, incremental backups are pretty fast, wired or not. So this is a 4TB hard drive in an external enclosure. I can't believe it's less than $150. That's great. In any case, connected to my airport, the drive turns itself off when not in use so I know it will last a long time. When I'm ready, it takes a few seconds to turn on, but it doesn't cause any real problems. Installation was a breeze. I connected it to my airport and opened the app. I went to the File Sharing and Drives tab and added the drive. Here it is. From Mac I went to Time Machine and selected the shared drive as my backup and it was even recognized as a Time Capsule. I also use it as a network drive. Why not, it's HUGE, isn't it? It's really fast and never gave me any problems. As a result, I get incremental backups almost every hour. I can get the status of a file days or weeks ago. I feel absolutely safe with that. My old MacBook died and I got a new Macbook Pro Retina and I chose the option to restore from backup, told it not to mess with the operating system, just apps and saved files, and as that was done, I had everything back. What more do you want? For less than $150, I'm really enjoying 4TB incremental backups. I got the same drive and set up my parents to back up my two computers. It's enough for that. They are thrilled.[.]
