I initially ordered a small backpack and the folder barely fits. You almost have to bend the corners to get it there. I ordered the large one instead and sent the small one back. As you can see, the large one is MUCH larger and is great for a binder. I can also store some notebooks and all my sons school supplies. I will say that a large backpack is about the size of a standard backpack, maybe a little smaller. The cup holders on the sides should easily hold a standard disposable water bottle, but nothing more. The smaller backpack actually has elasticated cup holders on the sides that can hold different sized bottles a little better. In this case, I prefer the utility of the main compartment of the pack to the utility of the side cup holders, so I'll stick with the big one.
