Wow! I'll write a long article in case it can help someone else as I've spent too much time studying this material. I have a 2 year old Queen Simmons BeautyRest Recharge Recharge mattress which (another short long story) is very firm. On a scale of 1 to 10, a mattress scores a 9.5 or 10, with 10 being the hardest. So we got a plush, quilt-style mattress pad that worked for a while, but I ended up ruining it by not washing and drying it properly. This is where my search for a new topper begins. The first attempt was a 3-inch topper made from Costco's NovaForm Gel Memory Foam. Very comfortable and cool. I had a type of allergic reaction that only 1 person in the world seems to have, itching and hot tingling on my hands and feet. While this didn't affect my wife, I still tried to find another source of that feeling, so like I loved the feel of the memory foam so much. Eventually I couldn't handle it anymore and sent it back. Then I went looking again, but I still wanted a memory foam topper or even a new memory foam bed. I convinced myself to buy a new bed while trying to decide between GhostBed, Tuft and Needle or Leesa. But my bed was only 2 years old, so at such an early stage it seemed a bit crazy to spend more than 700. I went to Amazon and found this 2 inch Lucid topper. I almost got the charcoal bamboo topper but decided to try this one too. After ordering it I started reading reviews about the smell, how awful it is, how unbearable it is etc. I tried to cancel my order but it was too late, it was shipped. SMELL: Don't worry. for worse than it came. I opened the package, left it in an open room with an open window for a day. Maybe it was because I expected the worst, but it really wasn't that bad. It smelled natural, but quickly dissipated. I sprayed him with some fever about 12 hours before, which may have helped as well. I put it on after 24 hours airing, no smell. I have a poor sense of smell, but my wife is very sensitive to smells. It didn't bother her at all, which was a big test. I would recommend if it still smells, don't put it on the bed and don't cover it. Wait for it to weather, spray it with a breeze, don't lose patience. You're going to lie on it for a while, so a few days? But then again, it only lasted 24 hours. Installing a fan can help. Heat: It's not that bad. In general it is very convenient. Fixed my mattress for a great price. I generally sleep very hot and that wasn't a problem for me. Not as cool as without a topper or with gel, but I don't wake up hot or sweaty. I give this place 5 stars, but I also have criticism. It doesn't look like the picture. This is a good product and works, but aesthetically it looks like cheap yellow foam. But honestly, do you really care how it looks when you cover it up? DURABILITY: In terms of staying power, it's still firmer than I'd like. I would say it took my bed down from a 9.5/10 to an 8/10. Much better improvement, but I'd like a 6 or 7. Again, I'm giving a 5 because it's purely personal preference and might be good for you. I also like that I don't "dive" deep into it, but rather allow myself to blend in. OTHER: I have had lower back issues in the past. I don't wake up from it in pain like I did when I temporarily didn't have a topper. So that's a plus. Although I'm not a doctor. I also use the WEEKENDER Quiet Waterproof Barrier Jersey Mattress Protector for reference. Seems like a good combination END: Overall a good product at a good price. You may want a softer one, but this will help you get more enjoyment out of your bed. 5 month update - still enjoy it and keep the 5/5 rating!
