Review on ๐ŸŽต Jensen SCR-68C: Premium Stereo Cassette Player with AM/FM Radio by Jeremy Jackz

Revainrating 3 out of 5

There is no audio quality, but this CAN work for you.

This cassette player isn't bad, but it's far from perfect. THE BAD: The big problem with this player is the sound quality. The music is very flat, there are no clear highs. Low bass is acceptable, but the midrange is very loud. There is also a lot of noise - white noise. I've used this player with everything from the included free earbuds, mid-range headphones (Panasonic RP-HT21) to higher-end studio monitor headphones (Sony MDR-7506 and Audio-Technica ATH-M30), so I know the problem is in the quality of the sound played by the player itself and not by my headphones. It just sounds like listening through a tin can if that makes sense. Finally, this player has no Dolby, no EQ settings (not even "bass" or "treble"), no rewind function (only fast forward). The fast forward function is very slow! PROS: This player is inexpensive and brand new so you know what you are getting and how much you are paying for it. By this I mean that the other way to buy a portable cassette is most likely to buy a used old Walkman on eBay (which I've done several times). If you go this route (with an old eBay Walkman) you will pay a higher price and your used Walkman may or may not work when you get it, or it may not work for very long just depending on its age. I am a cassette collector and have walked around the corner many times to find the right equipment to play my cassettes. In my experience, newer devices simply lack audio quality. Players like this Jensen model seem designed to *play only cassette tapes* with no regard for actual sound quality. Maybe it's new, or companies know that the market for cassette listening is relatively small at the moment and decide that making really good sounding players at a reasonable price isn't worth the extra cost. I've tried a few other brand new models available from Revain, even the USB models you might find by browsing, and gotten similar results. Finally, if you're just looking for something to listen to on cassettes, something that works but doesn't sound good, and you don't want to spend a lot of money, this player is probably for you. Don't be surprised by the sound quality though - it's not very good. If you're looking for something that sounds good (maybe great) like your old Walkman did in the days of mostly cassette music, this player probably isn't what you're looking for. I would actually give this unit 2.5 stars out of 5, but since Revain doesn't allow half stars, I've found that I might care more about sound quality than functionality than other people, and others might just want something that works , but only the basics . However, don't be fooled by the 3 out of 5 stars that this unit sounds good. I've attached a picture of the Jensen device and my Sony Walkman which I used to compare the sound quality and all the different headphones I've tried.
