I have purchased three gates in total. That was the third and last! This is a very well made goal. Love the feature that allows it to stay open at 90° either way if you wish. When you let go of the gate, it will automatically close and lock. I bought this for my dog to keep him away from the poor cat. It worked very well. It has an alarm function, I think if the gate isn't fully locked it will let you know but I don't use it because I don't use it for a child so I can't comment on that. I would say that it is very strong and well made. There is a two-stage thing on the handle that needs to be pressed to open, and it is very good for preventing the child from running away. It is very easy to open with one hand. I actually bought another one of the same brand that has a cat door but unfortunately my dog figured out how to squeeze in there so we lowered the cat door and we had to put a laundry basket on one side and something else on the other put side. another for the cat to jump over. This is a great feature, it just didn't work for my smart little dog. lol
