Review on 🚚 MaxxHaul 46x36x4.5 - 150 lb. Capacity - Unassembled 70115 Steel Roof Rack by Jay Brock

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent stand, needs some tweaking during construction to get a 5 star stand.

Pretty decent shelf if you put in a little effort. The rack arrived well packaged but when shipped from China you can't expect it not to have a few minor scuffs. First thing I did was throw away the tiny set screws they came with and went to ACE and got 5/32"Γ—1" and 5/32"Γ—1 1/4" stainless steel screws ( see pic 2) with stainless steel nylocks and used a 3/16" bit to drill through the entire rack and screw it in place. The cost might be $5 and took 10 minutes. But it's definitely worth knowing that it won't come loose during one of my many Montana/Northwest mining/logging adventures. I removed the Maxxhaul decal, lightly sanded the post, found a few holes in the welds, and filled them with black umbrella silicone ($3-$5 at Lowe's stores, Wal-Mart, etc.). Pipe joints (It comes with rubber grommets to attach the joints, but I doubt they actually seal moisture.) Duplicolor ($10-$12 @ Autozone) for shelf protection and sealing. It seems pretty solid (mine holds an 80+ pound spare tire with a bracket I make) once attached to my roof rails, but I'll be replacing the nut and handle combo with nylocks and possibly U-bolts (I have crossbars). . poles are narrow). and the mounting bracket certainly works, but I think it looks a bit wonky). I bought this shelf in January 2019 for $68 (I think I got lucky) plus the $20 I put into it and I ended up with a prettier and more durable rack. as a storage rack, they want $100 right now. For $100 I'd suggest a Reese rack ($88 when I bought this which was the main reason I bought this and not Reese) available here and at Wal-Mart. Overall this is a 3.5 star rack, but with a few bucks and some elbow grease you can make it a 5 star rack.
