Bought this as a gift for a friend who lost his darning egg. She says she loves him. This is a high quality hardwood. If I had bought it for myself I would have been disappointed that it was gone. If you had a big hole or heel I just can't imagine this 2.5 inch size would fit. Personally, I use an old lightbulb until I find a larger darning plug.
