Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Sound Tech GN-USB-2: 18" Professional Noise Canceling Gooseneck Microphone with 10 FT USB Cord - Enhanced Stereo Sound by Patrick Hamman

A good inexpensive solution

Once, with the help of the seller's customer service, I found out a significant technical problem (who would have thought that such an animal could even be found today ?) , this product worked pretty well with my professional version of the Dragon 15. I'm using it now and actually dictating from about 8 inches away in an office with background noise from an air conditioner and an open door to a hallway with several people talking outside. When I first plugged it in, I couldn't figure out why the mute button wouldn't turn dictation on or off. I had to use the Dragon toolbar. And it didn't go as I had hoped. But the support agent suggested another audio device was running in the background. I knew I had unplugged my original USB headphones (pretty good ones). But it turns out that the laptop's built-in sound (for embedded video or whatever) was still enabled. I think what happened is that Dragon used it and not the mic. Since I disabled the onboard audio, the microphone works fine and the mute button does a great job of muting and unmuting. I like the bright red button because it reminds me when someone walks into my office to turn off the microphone so I don't have to dictate our conversation into a document I've jotted down. I am very happy with everything and everyone. My previous wired headset worked fine but was cumbersome to use. Every time someone walked into my office or called me, I had to pick it up or remember to use the Dragon toolbar to shut down the system. Which happens dozens of times a day. Pressing the mute button on this mic is much easier. And as far as I can tell, the sound quality and dictation accuracy is as good as my $225 headset.

Pros
  • a nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
