I wanted a dual TIG and MIG welder that I could afford. After using the machine for a year, it has good and bad points. It's just a MIG welder and it does a satisfactory job. By all appearances, this is NOT A TIG machine. If you want to become a TIG expert, learn on this machine because in TIG mode the operator is merciless. Variable power pedal or control in any way, NO. You'll learn some neat tricks to keep your metal from burning out. Automatic argon flow, NO, you control it via a valve on the torch, which can be in the most inconvenient place. Also, the gas shuts off when you press the screw valve, a great feature for blowing really big holes in your project and not having a flexible hand position as the valve gets in the way for 98% of them. And don't forget to turn off the throttle so your holder doesn't hit the valve unless you're dropping $100 worth of gas into your shop. Lift TIG, your only option, also means touching your tungsten to the workpiece and hoping you can calculate the 20ms window (literally) you need to gracefully step back, set the right spacing, the puddle to start moving and start stabbing OR that it's more likely to stick to your tungsten (because the start of the 20ms window depends on amperage, material, angle, etc.) OR you're pulling too hard and start creating holes a few inches down your bow from your new flamethrower. And TIG shutdown is all about removing the arc and gas with a quick flick of the wrist to ensure you're out of shielding gas at the most critical moment. Just in case you missed it, this machine cannot weld aluminum which is the number one reason to buy a TIG capable machine. You can go on and on. It's just not a TIG welder. Find a better and cheaper MIG welder. By the way, this car can also work, but my car battery can too.
