I was looking for a 10th gen Intel Core i5 processor for a new build. So far it's hit advertised speeds and temperatures have been excellent with the tower air cooler. It pairs well with the 1660 Super for 1080p gaming, as well as office work and general computing. However, keep an eye on the prices for the standard/locked versions of the 10500 and 10600, they appear to be selling for around $40 more than the Intel MSRP as of September 2020, possibly due to supply issues. Currently the 10400 at $180 is better than the 10500/10600 at $240/260. Although I couldn't bring myself to buy a 10400 with a base frequency of 2.9 GHz. But a few hundred megahertz more at 10500/10600 doesn't make much of a difference in performance according to third-party benchmarks. If you want more power, an unlocked 10600K might be an option for around $275, but the Z490 motherboard is your best bet for overclocking. Overall, the 10500 met my expectations.
