Their opening and closing has nothing to do with force. It has to do with how tight the spouts close and the tiny tongue to open them. My husband and I are in exceptional condition and both have difficulty opening them. There just aren't many tabs for your finger or thumb to make a purchase. We have no problem removing the entire lid, just open the spout. We tried pressing to one side while lifting the tongue. We tried to open and close repeatedly to try to "relax". Failed! I think there must be an inconsistent production as some reviewers have no issues. Too bad because they seem to be made out of quality(?) material hence the extra star.
