Review on Belkin Professional Speakers with Docking Station and 4K HDMI Display, Model E248W 19203R by Loki Paul

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A new contender in the category of docking stations from a well-known brand

Belkin F4U092 adds this renowned manufacturer/distributor to many other jack manufacturers. Where laptop and tablet makers object, accessory makers must dare to fill the gap. Although Belkin might be a little late to this party. Luckily, your video options include USB-C, VGA, DP, or HDMI. In general, you get 4K HDMI 1.4, 4K DisplayPort 1.2, VGA, 1x USB-C PD 3.0, 2x USB-A 3.0, 1x USB-A 2.0, 1x Ethernet, SD 3.0 card reader, MicroSD 3.0, Audio In/Out 3.5 mm. Which ports do you need? On Windows/Chromebook machines these are: • external mouse • monitor (usually DP or HDMI) • external keyboard • gigabit (important for my home network and VPN use) can do this without trying to connect the port. I'm happy with the 3.5mm audio output as it's a stable standard outside of computers/smartphones. I could use another USB port or two (like a MIDI device, a backup drive, or a graphics tablet). It helps to have a hub that provides power for charging, but you need to read the fine print. - Ports A are common to both ports. The total maximum power output is as follows: When using a USB-C power adapter: 3.0A 5V 15W When using a USB-C power adapter without using: 1.8A , 5V, On An external USB power source is recommended for pass-through charging. There's a quick link to a 65W adapter, but I couldn't find which one Belkin had in mind. I tried the one I use for charging elsewhere and found that the hub works, in which case it gets a bit warm. Beware Phoenix/Tucson users. Apple users should consult the manufacturer's web content. PLUS - Belkin's answers support the questions on their website. CONS - No Bluetooth (you probably already have it on your host) - Support for a 4K 30Hz monitor (obviously a common limitation for typical chipsets used today) - You may need more USB hub ports - Another device (or more with power adapter) that you can take with you when you travel

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for older people
