I live in a relatively old house with old 2-prong outlets that don't allow you to use 3-prong (grounded) products without an adapter, so I replaced them to save myself the trouble, to find an adapter. This is still only a two wire system so they do not act as equipment grounds and should be labeled as such. The sockets were easy to swap out and came with good instructions and labels when needed. I can't say if they are weatherproof as mine are all in them.
