Purchased to mount a dot sight on a Nikon camera for astrophotography. It works, but the hot shoe mount doesn't quite fit. It's loose enough that even with the lockring tightened, it doesn't take a huge hit to rotate the bracket and knock the adjustment out. In addition, the guide is wider than the "standard" finder guide on the telescope. . I had to turn the rail clamps upside down on the Celestron 51630 Star Pointer Telescope Finderscope I bought for this. Nevertheless, it hardly slips on the rail. (I gave the Celestron viewfinder 5 stars) That means it won't withstand abuse like a firearm mounted red dot sight, so it works for my purpose.
