I bought these knowing a planned power outage was coming. We received the order just a few hours before the power outage. I was disappointed that the instructions didn't say anything about whether the bulbs arrived already charged or how long they needed to be charged (assuming there would be a power outage that day). Assuming it would take several hours to charge, I plugged the bulbs into the lamps and left them on for five hours before turning off the power. About four hours after the lights came on, I tested the lights by unplugging them while the light switches were "on". The instructions say you can do this to simulate a power outage. Not correct! They just shut down as you would expect. They turned out not to work and we ended up turning them off before we went to bed. There was a power cut that evening and when we woke up we tried turning on the lights just to see if anything had changed and this time they worked but had to be plugged in to work when the power went out! The other reviewer was right about the need for a closed loop! Now I see in the instructions a small reference to the need for a closed circuit, however this is not mentioned in the power failure simulation section and more emphasis should be placed on this detail of the need. I'm glad the lightbulbs worked when they needed them to, but it's been a guessing game up to this point!
