Review on πŸ“· Capture Stunning Shots with Tamron 24mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M 1:2 Lens for Sony E: A Comprehensive Altura Photo Essential Accessory Bundle by Gary Ferguson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Superb sharpness at wide aperture, low CA, high distortion, slow focus

This lens undoubtedly offers the best value for money. But there are a few more points to consider. First, the good news is that the lens is very sharp across the entire frame, practically from f/2.8. Shooting wide open is no problem at all. The processing quality is quite good: the housing is made of plastic, but the holder is made of metal with a rubber seal (weather protection). The size and weight make it very portable with any A7 series case. But now the "not so good" part. Focusing is slow with a lot of "yaw". Worst of all, f16 on my a7 ii fails to focus 50%-70% of the frames no matter the subject is near or far. So send f16 "sunstars”, well, you have to focus manually. Another thing is that the amount of barrel distortion is just insane. Adobe products still don't have a lens correction profile and you have to manually adjust it by about 20-25 points. It's really terrible. So if you're using older Sony FF bodies (a7, a7 ii), this lens can't be used for video work or continuous shooting, but for single focus and mostly landscape photography where distortion isn't a huge factor. We'll be pleased with the excellent sharpness at low HA of this lens. And for the price, it's still a great option.
