I think this is one of the best brands for dry feeding my cats as it does not contain carinagen which is known to cause health problems and tumors in animals (including humans). I have two kittens and wanted to make sure they were getting enough food for the kittens as I also feed my cats Natural Instinct wet food (which also does not contain Careenagen). I find the Merrick brand better than some other "healthy" kibbles. If you read the label and see a lot of the words "meat meal" instead of "real meat" that's a bad sign. And my kitties love it too. I also like that it doesn't have a fishy smell, suggesting they use fish offals or soy, which isn't a good thing either. In fact, fish-based cat food has been linked to feline hyperthyroidism. We have just lost our beloved 15 year old cat to hyperthyroidism and are convinced that not only is she aging but so is the cat food she is being fed. We feel terrible that we didn't figure this out sooner so we can adjust the food and possibly keep him alive. But after a lot of research I felt good about buying it in addition to wet food. I think this is the best way to honor my lovely boys by doing research as I am a nutrition coach by trade. Paying attention to labels is very important, also for our four-legged friends. We thought we were doing the right thing, but after carefully studying the label and researching the causes of hyperthyroidism, we came to this conclusion.
