Review on Intel I5 9400F Desktop Processor Graphics by Donald Waller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A value-for-money CPU for users with graphics cards

If you're planning on using any graphics card instead of integrated graphics, this CPU could outperform anything near the price. including similar ones from AMD for the price but typically more power intensive and less powerful processors. This is the basic lesson of thermodynamics. When you have a GPU on the same die, it has to compete with the CPU to shed tens of watts of heat. But if it's just a CPU with no GPU, Intel can overclock it while keeping the total TDP under a modest 65W, meaning quiet cooling and energy-efficient computing. So the 4th to 7th Gen Intel processors were strikingly similar and not very interesting. It took Intel too long, but the 8th and 9th gen versions with 6+ cores really kicked their ass and this is a good example.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
