Review on Bose Wave Music System III Home Audio by Ron Coleman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

No surprises - Home Audio

My wife has a ten year old model that she loves. In the last 2 years some CDs have gotten spirited and the bass has gotten pretty boomy which worries me a lot more than they do. Would happily pay $100 or so to be able to pick it up somewhere local (Los Angeles) and return it. However, my main interest in the System III is mainly that it is an easy to install (and reset) dual alarm clock with a battery operated CD radio. fuse. After 4 months of very ergonomically unfriendly use from Sony, the alarm clock aspect has gone to heaven (well, somewhere). There are many inexpensive clock radios out there that are nothing in between. If you're most interested in sound from a relatively small device, this is definitely for you. in use. Good sound. The ability to turn the device on and off with a simple top press, rather than relying on a remote control, is a major product improvement that should have been implemented a few years ago. It was the one feature that finally propelled me to the top and made me say "oh my god" and order a Bose, putting an end to the rather time-consuming, agonizing search for a clock radio. Poorly. Like previous versions, removed! Small, fragile, very easy to lose/misplace. That was (and still is) the bane of the whole package. I'm surprised Bose didn't create at least some sort of Velcro to just keep your distance and come together in a symbiotic relationship. My recommendation would be to go for the $40 Remote III with a backlight. It comes with a kickstand and is at least usable enough. It goes without saying that Bose should have packaged it together with the radio without increasing the cost. Ugliness. product cost. It's outrageous. but you already know that. There are no surprises here. Bottom line: if you can handle $$$, do it. The device as a whole meets my requirements. The price gets a little cheaper if your main purpose is to fill the room with music. It does a good job with that.

Pros
  • Realistic sound with Bose waveguide speaker technology
Cons
  • Hard to tell
