I did not wait for the failure of the standard pump. The OEM pump filter was bad and it took too long for me to notice a drop in performance at higher RPM and make the decision to replace everything. once. I wasn't sure how long the OEM pump would last as they have been known to have problems when the filter is clogged. Not worth my time to save a few bucks. Either way, changing the pump and filter on your KTM is pretty easy. I found it easier to drain the fuel and remove the tank entirely and then flush the tank to make sure there is no more "Shmeg" in the tank before reassembling the pump and filters. I don't recommend making it yourself without instructions and watching a few videos on You Tube. It just takes a lot of time, at least for me, because I always find something to check and check before I put the tank back in place. Now when I push the gas past 7000 rpm it responds.
