As attractive as the block is, I have trouble with flint. Compass and whistle work great. The adjustment to my wrist works great. The adjuster is uncomfortable when carrying the device with the compass up. However, with the adjuster facing up and the compass buckle down, it's more natural on a flat writing surface. My problem concerns Funkenstein. Since the set consists of two pieces, which I gave to my nephew, the flint sparkles quite well. With my unit, I took the paint off the flint for a while, but only gave off an effective spark! In my camping/climbing situations, this would be totally unacceptable. Building a Bowdrill takes less time! Even when I tried to get the flint to work, it flew out of its mount and onto the ground when I aggressively tried to get a spark. Luckily I found it and it was easy to put it back on. To prevent this, factory glue or epoxy had to be used. The tailor is very nice. Overall it's very good and reasonably priced. If the flint worked I would rate it as excellent as the main features I wanted were the whistle function and the emergency flint function.
