At first I had a spray bottle of water in the living room. Cats don't like being splashed with water. A friend told me that she tried this tape and her cats just chose another spot on her couch to scratch. Decided to try it myself. Glad you did! At first she only used one strip in one area. My 3 cats had egg scratches all over my couch and two chairs. When we went to bed they took care of my chairs. They destroyed my living room! This tape is clear and my furniture is off-white. Two of my furry friends are black. I placed 3 wide strips on each side of each chair with about 2" spacing between each strip. Even if they stood on their hind legs and reached up, they would hit part of the ribbon. They tested each chair and left some hairs. They don't like it and they don't get close to him now. I will set up the scratching post and gradually move it further and further away from my chairs. I will gradually remove some tape as they start using the scratching post. I can only remember that once someone sat in my living room. We always meet in the living room or in the basement, so I don't rush to film.
