Updated: I recently threw them away after they stopped working in March/April. A string will not light about half the fires in March. I put another one on the deck but it stopped working completely in April. Tried to switch solar sensors but to no avail. Nothing helped, so I threw them all in the trash. They were fun for the holiday season, but their flimsy wiring and fragile sun sensor make them temporary at best. Not strong enough to withstand rain or movement. (Previous Review) These lights were easy to erase and looked good when on. Solar panels absorb sunlight during the day and only turn on after sunset. How much sunlight they receive during the day determines how long they stay. I've seen them stay for 5 hours (when I go to bed) or only about 2 hours if it was a rainy, overcast day. They also react to car headlights. One section goes out briefly as we pull into the driveway, and a solar panel (pointing southwest toward the ground) catches a beam of car headlights. They come back as we go into the garage. (Just something to consider if you plan on using them near the road.)
