I don't know what material it is but it doesn't sound like crystal, it doesn't even sound like glass. The weight is too light for this thickness. I'm assuming it's some sort of plastic/glass composite that may affect the flavor of the wine. Also, the bottom isn't very wide, which limits ventilation. Useful for picnics to pour into something that doesn't fall on a blanket or lawn. I'm saving for everyday use (cheap bottles that can benefit from any aeration) and because the dryer comes in handy if I'm buying a quality carafe. But if you're at all serious about your reds, this isn't for you.
