I bought four different baby gates from Amazon and made a comparison chart - northern states are my favorite but the most expensive (see attached image). Overall, the Regalo brand is the cheapest of the four, but not my favorite. This product (Extra Tall) is better than standard size Regalo. Here's why:*** A toddler can open a standard sized gate by lifting the handle. Yes, there is a red latch to prevent this, but once the latch is engaged, you as a parent (with your hands full) can no longer easily open the gate with one hand. When you buy this gate, buy an EXTRA HIGH so your child can't reach the handle and open the gate, but you can still open it easily. *** Regalo gates (regular and extra high) do not open at the same time. Ways. SOME GENERAL BARRIER INSTRUCTIONS BELOW: Questions to find out which baby gate you should buy: *** How wide should the gate be? Most gates are designed to fit a standard door frame - many come with extensions for more space, but some MUST NOT (ie you have to order them separately and pay more...). *** Should the gate be of normal height? or big? Normal growth makes it easier to climb over. The big one is good if you do NOT want kids to climb over it or if you have a big/big dog. *** Do you want it to open both ways?
