Near prescription - EXCELLENT for problem eaters or cats with hair loss/skin problems.

First off, let me say that I'm not normally a cat person; I am absolutely a dog person. I've had dogs all my life and now that I've retired from the military, I'm providing a temporary home to the Dalmatian Dog Rescue Organization. I never have less than four dogs in the house, sometimes five or six. I inherited my cat from my son and became her surrogate owner while he was away on business. And this is unfortunately not a typical cat. She is fierce and rescuing at the same time, making her a problem even for seasoned cat lovers. Worst of all, she seems to think she's a RECON marine or something, and I'm no better than a Paris Island recruit. Until recently she behaved like this towards me and hardly noticed my presence. The first thing I did when I became her temporary owner was switch her diet to dry cat food. I don't have the time or inclination to bother with cat food, even if it comes in those cute plastic containers of different sizes and shapes. And some of them smell awful, which the cat might like, but not me. So I tried all the food grade cat foods and tried to find one that she liked. Only she wrinkled her nose at each of them, and since she was wild, she often came to the door during meals and pretended that she had better go and kill someone. But it won't happen in my watch. So I switched to more expensive premium cat foods like Crave Grain Free and Iams. There seems to be a difference between these products and product-level products, as most will at least review and, albeit reluctantly, try them. After many false starts and trials I have found a cat food that she LOVES. This is the Iams High Protein Chicken and Salmon recipe. Unfortunately I can't just fill her bowl and let her eat whenever she wants because two rescue dogs have spotted the cat food and seem to think it's a gourmet treat. Every time they find it, they empty the bowl and look for more. However, this stuff contains 38% protein, which is way too much for dogs and can cause all sorts of kidney problems over time. So I had to resort to putting in the cat food at the same time I fed the dogs. While this helps solve the problem, it is not enough as cat food contains multiple types of nuggets and the cat prefers the order in which to eat them. which greatly simplifies access to more desirable ones. After eating her favorite food first, she leaves to retrieve the nuggets that dropped on the floor. However, if one of the dogs finishes its meal before the cat has eaten, they will chase it away and go after the nuggets that are still on the ground. So now I have to feed the cat in a separate room and lock the door so it has enough time to eat. Since discovering Iams High Protein cat food I have noticed two main changes. The first is behavior. As I said, the cat treated me with contempt and mostly ignored my presence. But suddenly she spoke to me, especially when I didn't have time to cook her food. I don't speak a cat and can't interpret her vocalizations, but she says something and often takes a while to finish. I don't know if she's grumbling or thanking me, but she's definitely talking to me. Also, she started rubbing my leg, pacing, making contact and even purring. I guess that's a good sign, but then again I'm not a cat lover and I don't feel comfortable interpreting. Another change I've noticed in her is that her coat is smooth and shiny and her shedding has been greatly reduced. This cat has NEVER taken a bath - no one including my son and his buddies has ever tried to do so because her claws are lethal and she is not afraid to use them. I can attest to their dangerousness (and show scars from many injuries) when we first met. But now, as it stands, she looks like a ship, as clean and formidable as any marine or sailor. The only thing I can relate to this change in appearance is the food. This is absolutely in line with their metabolism. So if you have a cat that has become a problem eater (and willing to eat dry cat food) or is shedding like crazy, I highly recommend feeding Iams High Protein Chicken and Salmon. Try the recipe. I find it EXCELLENT. There may be other brands that are just as good, but I stopped looking as soon as I discovered this stuff.
