Purchased two wands for my two granddaughters. I decided to try one out before giving them to the kids to make sure they work. I pulled the tab and the wand lit up. It was great, except that the on/off button doesn't work, so I can't turn it off. I ended up having to open it and remove the batteries so it wouldn't die before the kids even got it. Pretty bummed about that. And it takes FIVE little round button batteries. I have no idea how long the batteries last and what it costs to replace them. Ugh.
