I have used other Hi8 cartridges but in my experience nothing compares to the quality of Sony. I'm an active member of a band and we play about every week. I mount my camera (Sony TRV340) on a tripod and have it photographed at all of our venues. As a result, I use quite a few tapes per month. So I need a reliable quality brand that I can trust; Sony High8. The video quality is excellent, even after several reshoots (reshoots of footage). The same goes for clay; crisp and clear (especially if you have an extra microphone). The outer band sleeve proved surprisingly durable. I once dropped a box of these tapes from a high shelf onto a hard tile floor - but they survived. These tapes are almost universal in any shooting situation, and for that I recommend Sony.
