I'm so surprised that they are made of plastic but I'm very happy with them. They're a lot stronger than expected, which is good. I wanted to change up our kitchen chairs a bit as the ones I bought last time just don't look right and aren't as comfortable as I was hoping. I too grew up with these ice cream parlor style chairs and have fond memories of them. Ours were beaten with a stick and then covered in cloth when my sister stuck her knee through one of them. However, it is plastic. It's really weird for me, but I decided to do it anyway. They look like plastic up close, but the style suits my newly remodeled kitchen perfectly. They're really comfortable, but I think we'll order seat cushions anyway. I don't think they would be comfortable doing anything other than sitting down for a meal or a quick game. A quality pillow is very important to me. I like the chairs, I don't think they look like plastic, they just look like painted wood plastic, because who would expect plastic chairs? You have to think they're plastic to believe they are. Although they are lighter than wood, this can be a disadvantage. You look great. I'm very happy with it so far and the plastic doesn't bother me at all, although my husband is a bit embarrassed. My kids find it new. I recommend.
