I had a Sony VHS to DVD player - it played all media and you could dub back and forth. I've copied hundreds of VHS tapes (both commercial and those I've recorded from TV and recorded from rented DVDs) to DVD. The process was a little difficult to follow at first but once you got the hang of it it was easy and the quality was great. After 12 years it stopped working and I wanted another one. Couldn't find anything but random models sold independently for an amazing amount of money. When I went to a large electronics store, the sales clerk recommended this Roxio product to me and showed me a home video, which she had copied and saved on her phone. It seemed to me to be of worthy quality and I bought it. Had to return it because despite saying several times I'm a Mac user, I brought it home and it was for Windows. So I found the Mac version on Revain to be significantly cheaper (about $40 savings). It was pretty easy to hook up, and the instructions on how to start recording are pretty straightforward too. You need a VCR that ended up in a box in my closet. So far, so good. You launch a VCR (or camcorder, apparently) that is connected to the actual Roxio device on the computer. I pressed play on the VCR and record on the computer screen where the Roxio window appeared. So far so good again. After a cassette was done I wanted to look at it to see if it worked (I had records from other companies). a similar device for converting cassettes into computer files). It's quite difficult to find even the location of the file on the computer. Upon discovery, I tried dragging and dropping into iMovies but that didn't work, nor did it move the Roxio icon to the dock. So I had to search to even find it and I still don't know exactly where on the hard drive it sent the file. computer, so you don't know what's happening when you play a large format on a TV screen) and worse, the sound is out of sync with the picture. It's like a scene from Singin' in the Rain where the image precedes the soundtrack. I've copied old episodes of TV shows so both the voice and the vocals are out of order. I call the tech support company - it remains to be seen if they even respond. Otherwise it will be returned. I don't know if there are other similar products - this was the only brand I found - but this is NOT recommended. Looks like I'll leave my VCR behind and find a place to keep old VCRs. if there are other similar products - this was the only brand I found - but this is NOT recommended.
