I bought this flashlight because I've just started my 3rd shift and I've read how yellow and blue light can disrupt an already disturbed sleep pattern. In any case, I always slept fitfully, and every bit of light in the room bothered me (LED clocks, regular night light, sun coming in between the curtains, etc.). I wanted something for the bathroom in case I need to get up in the middle of the "night" without clicking through the large tub, which wakes me up even more. It seems to help; it gives off enough light for me to look around but not enough to keep me up late. I also wash my face and brush my teeth in this light before I go to bed (at 8am lol) so I can lie down and fall asleep without waking up too many times from using normal house lights. I can't speak to the sensitivity of this little guy as he stays on all the time because my room is so dark; However, it turns off when I turn on the regular bathroom light. The red glow is nice and the entire unit is cool to the touch. Along with blackout curtains and a sleep mask, I definitely recommend including one of these in your 3rd layer starter pack.
