Review on πŸ”§ BOSCH BT300: Aluminum Heavy Duty Elevator Quick Clamp Tripod - 45 Inch by Rail Basri

Reliable but has some issues for casual users

I wanted a tripod for my Bosch GLS25 laser. I bought it first a basic camera tripod that actually worked fine but the problem was not enough height and the tilt/pan mechanisms that come standard with camera tripods are another source of height error. In general the camera tripod worked fine but I needed more height I looked at the PLS lift tripod and this Bosch model, in the end I settled on the Bosch because it was a bit cheaper and matched the laser - in hindsight I think PLS would be better for the average user wanting a solid Tripod needed One of the main downsides of the Bosch tripod for me is that the top plate is quite large and the vertical beam of my laser blocked, affecting one of the functions of my Bosch laser. seems stable enough, but there are some design limitations that don't suit me. For a homeowner, hard work is overdoing it, and in the end for me it's no better than a cheaper tripod (height aside). It still wobbles when you push it like any other tripod, and when you adjust the laser by using a twisting motion to raise the elevator column, the laser wobbles, so it's not rock-free (and I didn't think it was ). realistic). . The jack works well, but adjusting the rotation with the top plate is just as inaccurate and difficult as with any other tripod. When I used the thumbscrew to lock the rotation, that action caused the laser to deviate slightly from my mark, so I gave up trying to tighten it. Pros: Outdoor tips quickly become indoor rubber feet. by unscrewing the built-in rubber foot. - The lift mechanism feels solid and I had no issues with the gears not being smooth as some others have reported - The quick release levers work well and tighten the legs securely. The whole tripod is big, heavy and durable. It appears to be all metal construction with no plastic except for the steps used to install the spikes. elevator shaft. Therefore, when you extend the legs, they can be at random angles, making it difficult to get the tripod anywhere near a plumb line for a quick setup for indoor work. It's probably fine for pros, but I see some benefits in it for the street. With practice (and using a spirit level, see next scam) I'm sure the pros wouldn't have a problem with this and might even prefer it, but for me I want to be able to spread my legs evenly and have it. fairly close to level on a flat surface. No built-in spirit level. Even a cheap camera tripod had a cheap bladder to level the tripod. I knew it wasn't in the website descriptions but the descriptions of this tripod are so limited that I was hoping it might be there. Without it, it's very difficult to level the tripod and I'm sure the pros have or can fit a spirit level on the instrument, but for me it's an added cost and hassle. I can see why they wouldn't put a cheap inaccurate bubble on this, but anything is better than nothing. - Turntable. It is very difficult to turn the laser to the exact point. There is enough "stickiness" in the armature as it rotates that you can miss your mark and hope the disk will rebound just enough to stop at your mark. After fumbling with it and setting it on a notch after trying to lock it in place with the thumbscrew, this tightening action moves the rotation of the platter. I gave up and left it unstretched. The plate blocks the plumb laser. The top plate is nice and big, which can help stabilize big heavy lasers. But this one blocks the vertical laser dot shooting down from my Bosch laser. I understand that this is meant to be a 'professional' tripod and I knew it would be overkill for my use, but I figured it would at least be easy to set up with no play/game. I think you need to be in the several hundred dollar range for something of this quality. It's a solid/reliable tripod with no frills, works great if you have your own bubble level to set up and don't have a plumb point on your laser and you'll probably have to abuse it. Not worth it for the average user though, it's no better than an indoor camera tripod.

Pros
  • VERSATILITY: Bosch BT300 with 5/8" to 11 threads is universal and also comes with a plumb hook
Cons
  • So far so good
