Review on GERBER StrongArm Fixed Blade Knife by Ray Gist

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good inexpensive survival knife. Sheath is good but will not fit vertically off belt without modification

Very good survival knife for the money. The blade is strong and quite sharp out of the box. Subtle ceramic coating. Apart from the handle, there are no complaints about the knife itself. It's not bad. I don't like the diamond handle, but I don't hate it either. The rubberized grip is smooth on the front and back. I don't mind the feel of the front where fingers press together, but the smooth edge on the back gives me a less secure feel in my palm. I want them to either have a diamond pattern all the way around or the ribbing on the handle and back of the handle going from top to bottom. The sheath holds the knife securely and is nicely designed to keep your thumb pressed against the sheath while gripping the handle to draw the knife. As a tactical design, it is good for tying on your waist or vest. The horizontal carry option is just too uncomfortable for EDC at the back of the waist. Sitting in a chair with a back doesn't work, and no matter where I tried to position it, the handle stuck out for miles. The ability to be worn on a belt is really just an afterthought and not part of the design. It's hard to explain how to print, but the plastic-coated knife flaps everywhere, regardless of the two-piece canvas piece. Not sure at all. I made a video explaining this problem and how I solved it.
